Sudan’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim Mohamed, has held talks with Mr. Chulvat Narinthrangura, Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand the development partnership between Sudan and Thailand.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group in Bangkok. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation within the framework of Africa–Thailand cooperation, with the aim of supporting Sudan’s economic and productive priorities and advancing its development objectives.

Memorandum of Understanding to Formalize Cooperation

Both sides underscored the importance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for joint cooperation, define priority areas, and outline implementation mechanisms.

They also emphasized the importance of strengthening Sudan’s participation in the annual Africa–Thailand Forum to expand opportunities for knowledge exchange, capacity development, and the sharing of successful development experiences.

Agriculture, Energy and Food Security Among Key Priorities

The discussions explored potential areas of cooperation, including vocational training and capacity building, agriculture and food security, fish marketing, energy, water, sugar production, and salt trade.

Particular emphasis was placed on leveraging Thailand’s technical expertise and development experience to support productive sectors, strengthen national capacities, and improve Sudan’s ability to utilize its economic and natural resources.

The proposed areas of cooperation reflect a shared interest in expanding technical collaboration and identifying practical opportunities that could contribute to economic recovery and sustainable development in Sudan.

Joint Technical Teams to Identify Priority Projects

The two sides agreed to dispatch technical teams from Sudan and Thailand to assess cooperation opportunities on the ground, evaluate existing needs, and identify priority projects.

The assessments will provide a basis for developing practical and implementable programmes, with the objective of translating bilateral discussions into concrete development initiatives and productive partnerships.

The proposed technical engagement is expected to help establish a clearer roadmap for cooperation, strengthen institutional collaboration, and support Sudan’s economic recovery and sustainable development priorities.
